Chiropractic Care for Frozen Shoulder on the Outer Banks

Frozen shoulder, or adhesive capsulitis, is a condition where the shoulder joint shortens, tightens, and adheres to the bones in your shoulder.  This condition can be very painful and often leads to extreme disability if untreated.

Fortunately, frozen shoulder is easily treatable by your chiropractor, though ignoring the problem in the early stages can cause the treatment to last for many months, or even longer.  The best solution to frozen shoulder is to seek treatment early and stop the condition from becoming a serious problem.

The symptoms of frozen shoulder are:

  • Initial irritation in the shoulder
  • Rapid loss of shoulder motion
  • Any movement of the arm becomes painful (in the shoulder)
  • If untreated, may lead to extreme disability which can last for several years

Frozen shoulder can be caused by many different things, such as:

  • A shoulder injury
  • Neck injury
  • Shoulder surgery
  • Overuse of the shoulder, including overuse related to sports and exercise
  • A wide range medical conditions, including diabetes, arthritis, circulatory disease, and hyperthyroidism

Chiropractic treatment for frozen shoulder begins with an examination and your chiropractor taking your complete medical history.  The symptoms are treated with stretching and shoulder exercises.

An important aspect of recovery and prevention of recurrence is the treatment of any underlying cause of frozen shoulder.  For example, if your condition is caused by diabetes, then your diabetes must be treated to help prevent frozen shoulder from coming back.  Your chiropractor can advise you on how best to deal with the cause of your frozen shoulder.

Chiropractic treatment is very effective for this condition.  If you are experiencing shoulder pain, see your chiropractor immediately.
