Fall prevention in older adults

Most of us have had a loved one experience pain and disability because of a fall.  Mother Nature is not always kind.  As we age we may experience a decline in the functioning of our nervous system which is responsible for coordinating all of the functions of our bodies…including coordination and balance.  Also called proprioception, the bodies ability to right itself and move smoothly, is essential to avoiding injury.

It is commonly understood that falls may contribute up to 80% of hospital admissions in individual over 65.  A new study in New Zealand has shown that there is a relationship between chiropractic manipulation and improved balance.  When appropriate chiropractic care is coupled with active patient care and exercises this potential risk may be greatly reduced.
